Talent Is Not A Right

“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.” Albert Einstein

Talent, you either have it, or you haven’t put the effort in to get it.

In many ways, the discovery of a talent is simply the breaking down of fear when doing the things that you are passionate about, be that baking cakes, talking with people or creating a work of art.

“I can’t…I’m no good at…”. How many times have you let the voice of ruin in your head hold you back, and beat you down? Worry is the great human affliction, it will stop you moving forward, make you fear the rejection of others. Keep those little demons at bay at all costs if it’s talent you seek! The key to finding and developing your talent, like most things in life is having the confidence to say ‘screw it, I don’t care what people think, I’m going to do this and I don’t care if I fail’.

Of course, practice makes perfect, and as Albert Einstein so eloquently put it, “…mastery demands all of a person”. The best musicians, athletes, artists, designers, speakers, thinkers, movers and shakers all have one thing in common…they have practiced their skill for many more hours than anyone else. They say it takes 10,000+ hours to get really good at something…all you have to do is knuckle down and do the work.

Now ask yourself, ‘how do I overcome my fears in order to allow my talent to grow and flourish’? My recommendations are simple. First you have to silence those worries. Forget what people will think, break a few eggs and be prepared to fail and start again. Then, persevere with your whole being. There’s no way round it, you just gotta practice ‘til your fingers bleed!

Oh, and make sure you’re having fun.

What say you talented people?
