Working in a digital marketing agency, you spend a lot of time staring at screens. So by the time 4.30 on a Friday evening comes around the last thing you really feel like doing is more web design work that you know you’d do much better job of on a Monday morning.
So what better way to finish up the week than by hosting a think tank with a digital agency from Sweden – in Dublin for a “creative/learning/happy-trip”?
With our web design presentation in hand and Guinness chilling in the fridge we gladly abandoned our desks for the more inspiring atmosphere of our lovely Gallery Number One and sat down for web design company chats with Noc, a digital agency based in Stockholm and Linkoping.
One of the nicest things about meeting with a fellow digital marketing agency was that this wasn’t a pitch or a competition, it was a little moment in which we could all be really proud of our web design work and show off our favourite sites and site functionalities that we’ve built and maintained. And because they are an agency too, they got it! We’re all au fait with the same technologies and online trends and come up against similar challenges, so like friends who love and hate the same bands, we were able to get excited about the same nerdy things together.
Noc started their presentation with an infographic about themselves that we fell in love with a little bit and as they went on it was almost shocking to see the number of similarities between our companies, right down to the type of clients we both have.
We finished up, of course, in the pub and although we did talk about some more about web design and digital marketing, we also spent a lot of time comparing the beautiful scenery of our two nations and agreeing that for really good creative digital work it was important to remember how much ones mind can benefit from sharing ideas and methods and spending a bit of time away from the screen. Just a little bit. And I’m enjoying Monday morning work all the better for it. Now back to the screen!
